Sunday Sewing

I am working on the last dozen blocks for the secret project. What should I do with these oddball scraps that are left over? I'm thinking about a log cabin...Although this picture was taken in January, we have had a repeat of torrential rain this morning.
Perfect day to curl up on the couch!
It's not all doom and gloom, we have some lovely rose blossoms!

Start and Finish

First, a cat. I love it when she perches in the window!

This is the start...Baby K got a set of toy golf clubs, and she has "re-purposed" the tees. Daddy asked what she was doing, and she said "Knitting." That's my girl!

And the finish...I have about 21 inches (150 stitches) of Kitchener stitch to do to seam the back of my sweater vest. This is my oldest knitting project - begun in the Fall of 2005. Amazing how long garter stitch takes when you are a beginner! I am trying to be a monogamous knitter and get this thing done, so I haven't even looked for a place online to order more yarn for the miter square blanket.

The girls

This is my favorite current picture of my darling daughter...One of her favorite games is making Mommy and Daddy lay on the floor to go "night night" as she puts a blanket over us. We get tucked in with kisses and stuffed animals. Then, when she wants us to get up, we have to "chase" her as she does laps around the couch. Quite the little director - I imagine in a few years we will have all the neighbor children at OUR house as she runs the show!
Here's Casey, the downstairs kitty. The cat stand is one of her napping spots , used primarily in the morning since the tile floor is much nicer during the heat of the day!And the "big sister" kitty, Gidget. Since she is the boss, she gets to sleep upstairs. It's funny to wake up, check on the baby and see Gidget sleeping at the top of the stairs so that other kitty doesn't invade her space!

Enjoying the Weather

Baby K is a morning person; up at 6am, to bed at 7pm. (plus or minus a half hour!) This works well for early morning playtime before the sun is high and it's too hot to be outside. Today, she enjoyed splashing in the mud while we watered the trees. Gidget, our shy cat, likes to make a quick pass around the yard and then she darts back inside.
K.C. likes the water around the trees too!
My "artsy" shot...our peachy-pink roses in bloom.
I put Baby K's hair in pigtails yesterday. Too cute for words!
Craft update - I am quilting a t-shirt quilt on the longarm. The customer did NOT use any kind of interfacing or cotton sashing, so I had a bit of puckering and stretching on the sides. I wouldn't recommend that technique. T-shirts in general are hard to deal with. This is the second one this spring that I've quilted and I'm ready to get back to regular quilter's cotton!

Still mitering. This week's colors are light blue and chocolate brown. I'm enjoying this project so much! With about 20% of the squares done, I'm thinking I should start sewing some of the blocks together - just the like colors though, since I want to lay it all out and play with color placement when I have all 144 squares done. So, I need to find some instructions for mattress stitch and go to town.

New Arrival

Meet our new Kitty Cat, cleverly named K.C. She's a big girl! KC is more social than our other cat Gidget, which is fun for Baby K. There was the typical sibling rivalry - much hissing and growling between the two sister-kitties, but they seem to be working it out. After a three month sock interlude, I've picked up the miter obsession again.
These squares still need to be blocked so they lay flat, but I don't want to leave them out overnight since I don't know if KC is enamored of straight pins like some previous four-legged residents of this house! It's supposed to be warm tomorrow (in the 90s) so I can block them and let them dry on the patio for an hour or so.
